icons in bredäng

The small church in the center of Bredäng ("Broad Meadow") was inaugurated in 1969. It is used not only by the Swedish Lutheran Church but also by a Romanian Orthodox parish.

keeping the birds out

It's a bit of creative thinking to use old Christmas decorations to scare the birds away from buds and berrys. As seen in Aunty O's grove (Tantolunden).

The Sickla Udde - Gullmarsplan tram passing over a bridge into Hammarby Sjöstad. Notice the blue walls on the buildings on the left hand side. They are only just - walls. Quite cool if you ask me.

water week: to the manner born

When you're on a dinner date with a lady friend (be it here in Norrviken or elsewhere), there are a few ground rules to observe. You might want to look your best and give a favorable impression. Then again, you might not care a whole lot. Regardless, don't turn your behind at her while eating.

water week: birds in the pool

Liljeholmsviken covered in ice. Some bird have found a pool of open water. It's close to here, where the fishing is good. We have had a week of sunshine, but the weatherman says that will change any day now. Not to ice and snow we hope.

water week: a wintry benchmark (2)

Granted, this might not be the comfiest bench in town but it's got a better view by the Karlberg Canal than most benches do. Here we actually managed to capture traces of snow. During most of this "winter" we had none. There were a couple of hungry guys circling around us. You can see them here.

Solna like most municipalities has its fair share of cooperative retail facilities. Here at Coop Konsum (next to the subway station) the good citizens of Bergshamra can stop by to get their daily milk and bread.

Part of the Solna Municipality, Bergshamra (pop. 7300) is a suburb without much of a history. It was established after WWII (which obviously left Sweden almost unaffected by hostilities) and has been extended several times.

mid-month theme: subway day

It's always the same story - old v/s new. This used to be a familiar sight for commuters in the Stockholm subway. One of the older cars, nowadays only serving at rush hour when we need everything which is still capable of rolling through those tunnels.

Not the fanciest architecture, you might argue. Still, some paint and the generous afternoon sun does miracles. The neighborhood around Rotsunda Square offers a bit of tranquility if you make an effort to forget the highway a stone's throw away.

To us, city photoblogging isn't primarily about the birds and the bees. Still, we do have flowers in Stockholm (someone asked;) and this is the time of year when they are most appreciated. So from all of us to all of you, a very merry spring. Enjoy this humble spring crocus from Norrviken.

daily photo theme day: off season

Ice is frozen water and if the weather is cold enough the ice gets thick enough to walk or skate on. If you play ball on ice you should preferably use a small orange or red ball - approximately the size of a tennis ball - and sticks and skates and then you suddenly play bandy. Football is played in the summer on grass. Oh, how I long for the football season. Not for the sports, but for the warmth and open waters.
