not your average (red) sofa

This rather oversized sofa was standing in Kungsträdgården during a week called "A Taste of Stockholm". The park was transformed into a giant food court, where restaurants from all over Stockholm had put up stands where they served small portions of different kinds of food. This has become a yearly event and depending on the weather it pulls out people by the thousands. The sofa is an advertisement for one of Stockholm's three free morning papers.

a few hundred meters from the absolute city. It's magnificent.

.Den här lyktstolpen på Norrmalmstorg är rätt snygg. Jag har ofta kikat på den och tänkt ta en bild. Nu blev det av, när måsen landade på toppen. Den satt där länge och glodde. Rätt vad det var skrek den till också så det blev till att vänta ut det.

Composing an espresso at the Gazzetta tobacconist, betting shop and café by Hamngatan. Some people argue that you can't get a regular cup of coffee nowadays - it's only espresso and latte and such. They are of course wrong. There are still some pockets of resistance serving the regular filtered coffee. Sweden is number two in the world (after Finland) when it comes to drinking coffee

(156 litres of java per person last year).

I get my morning paper delivered to my door. I read it and then put it in a pile. When the pile gets too high I put my papers in a green container at Borgargatan. When that container is full it is collected and taken to - I don't know where, but it is made into new paper.

It works quite well, actually.

Carl Wilhelm Scheele (1742-1786) was a pharmaceutical chemist who discovered various substances. In this night view of Vasagatan we see a pharmacy which is open 7x24 and bears Scheele’s name.

VIP evening

Just a few steps away from where Michael took his photo we see a VIP evening in a design and fashion shop. One lady was not invited so she hurries home. This part of Stockholm South is full of trendy designers (Efva Attling has a shop here) and galleries.

Hornsgatspuckeln

Stockholm is not your average flatland. An older version of the busy Hornsgatan offers good exercise (at least when you walk uphill) as well as interesting architecture. Söder – the southern part of the city – is rich in cultural heritage.

There’s no shortage of political demonstrations on and around Sergels Torg, the square which is widely regarded as a symbolic center of the city as well as the country. This flag was on display at a small pro-Palestinian event.

. Couldn't resist this one. It's the Parliament house in the background and from last year actually. Probably part of some art exhibition. If not - what kind of bird might lay these eggs? Ostrich perhaps but I doubt they would get up in that nest. Maybe it's some pre-historic bird? Anyway they're gone now.

Summer Night City (3)

Night falls by Växhuset, a day care centre in northern Sollentuna. Their name alludes to the Swedish word for greenhouse: ”växthus”. A house for growing. Surely kids will do most of the growing. But the company also emphasizes their vision as a great employer.

Their staff might want some room for inner growth as well.
