renovation object

The old traffic hub Slussen is long overdue for... something. The debate rages on. One thing is for sure, it'll be different and pretty soon too. The entire structure is decaying and sinking as well.

I have known Slussen for many years and owing to your post I discover today the origin of the name a lock (une écluse) !

It makes an arresting photo against the backdrop of the night sky.

Once upon a time I used to commute using Slussen and it's buses or the Saltsjöbanan tram almost everyday, to and from highschool. I never thought about it being shabby back then, but it must have been I guess. Though even shabbiness sometimes has its charm... And a bit of dusk always works wonder! Nice shot!

I think you have found an interesting angel this time, Per! And as Pia says: "a bit of dusk always works wonder".

I for one appreciates the pure genius of this traffic hub, but also understand the need of renovation etceteras. I just wish they could keep some of the old, some of the views and leave some space for us humans.

I waited a while for a clear sky but as it turned out I think the dark clouds make the photo more interesting.

Deslilas: One can always learn something new from an unexpected source!

Paz: The backdrop was what triggered my attention. The rest happened to be there in the foreground... ;)

Pia K: This traffic circus has worked well throughout the previous century. I suppose the shabbiness has accelerated as a consequence of increasing vandalism which - regrettably - is not a phenomenon specific to Slussen.

Peter: I fully agree. Whatever happens there should be lots of space for people. Also, I'd like to see more of the water around this hub.

Simply love the dark blue sky! It looks quite threatening. Like the destiny of Slussen ;) Is it possible to take pictures from Katarinahissen during the night, by the way? That must be spectacular!

It's been a while since we visited Katarina. You're right, the view is quite something. It can get quite windy up there which really calls for better equipment than my minimalistic stuff. Thanks Fredrik.
