outdoor concert

I don't know the name of the band, but they played good music and the crowd loved them and their free concert under the Liljeholmen bridge.

heavenly cooking

A food court is an establishment where several restaurants share the same premises. The new one in Vällingby is called Vällingehus. The interior is surprisingly shabby already. The food is OK. The reflected sky is delightful.

order has been restored

Evenings used to be long, warm, even sunny. Now is the time for cuddling up indoors, leaving only the photographer out there in the dark. Just the way he wants it.

airy room with a view

No need to sleep with an open window in this room. On the other hand I suppose you wouldn't sleep in the kitchen anyway. Interesting way of catching bypassers' attention that there's in fact rooms to be had.

Djurgårdskyrkan

Inside the Djurgården church. The wooden church was built by a shipowner - John Burgman - as a gift to the Hedvig Eleonora parish in 1828. In the first years the church was also used as a school.

the Fittja connection (2)

Fittja in Botkyrka has 7500 residents. 65% of them are of foreign descent. Thanks to the subway, the inner city is easily within reach. See more?

The organ of St. Thomas Church in Vällingby was constructed in 1962. A modest instrument, when compared to some others.

The famous Swedish elk or moose is ever present. Here at the food experience fair in Aunty O's Groove (Tantolunden). It can't be easy to be a dog under at these circumstances. Game and food everywhere.

I'm really not sure if it's supposed to look like a giant chanterelle or if it's just a roof to protect the people looking for help at the local medical center of Nykvarn.

outdoor cooking (food fest 1)

Family farmers and food producers from all over Sweden every other year come to Stockholm for a three-day food fest in Aunty O's Groove (Tantolunden). Each region presents themselves with their local specialities: salmon and seafood delicacies from crystal clear waters, salamis and hams from elk and reindeer, preserves from zesty northern berries and freshly harvested organic fruit and vegetables and and and ...

Pope behind bars

Pope Benedictus XVI in street art mode. Found at the façade of the formerly Katarina Västra school gymnasium from 1881 (destroyed in a fire in 2003). Plans are still on to make it into a hamam, a Turkish bath.

spot the flag

Beginning in the eighth century, the Scandinavian Vikings traveled through most of Europe, the Mediterranean Sea, Northern Africa, Asia Minor, the Arctic and North America. Now the world is coming to us. In international Bredäng the influx is great and the parabolic antennas outnumber the Swedish flag by some 20-25 to one. Do you speak International?

This might not be the most spectacular and extravagant summer party we've come across but these suburban residents seem to be having one heck of a good time. I so wonder what's inside that plastic bag on the table. Maybe ice-cream?

benchmarking in Alby

I had to have another encounter in Botkyrka with the red benches at Alby subway station, decorated by Olle Ängqvist. This is a remake and you know what they say - remakes are never quite as good as the original. So, what's your verdict?

the people's home

There comes a time in life when we no longer move about at warp speed and take corners on two wheels. Stockholm aims to be a good city for the elderly with a wide spectrum of services available and accessible when the pace and the priorities are different. Have we been successful? One day I may find out.

People waiting in the main hall of the railway station Stockholm Central. Here you find long distance trains, regional and commuter trains. Since 1958 the station is joined together with T-Centralen, the central subway station, through an underground passage. Some 450000 people travel here every day making it the largest station in the Nordic countries.
