summer garden

Trädgården - the Garden - is a summer club under the bridges between Skanstull and Gullmarsplan. Live music and DJ's, BBQ and drinks. I even saw some guys playing table tennis.

the gondola

Music in the Ryssgården square at Slussen. In the back, 33 metres over ground, is the posh restaurant Erik's Gondolen.

right on track this jackdaw. Let's hope the train is not coming soon, or the feathered squad will be one less.

let there be light

The Katarina Church, the Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's Mosque - commonly known as the Stockholm grand mosque - and some street lights seen from Medborgarplatsen. Let there be light on all people.

Medborgarplatsen (map) 24 April 2010

Note: The distance between the church and the mosque is approximately 250 to 300 metres.

let's build a boat...

"...and to make sure nobody finds it, we lift it up under the ceiling. That way people may walk right under it without even knowing it's there..."

a song for saving Slussen

Sofie Björk and students from the music secondary school Rytmus is singing a protest song at a rally to save Slussen from demolition.

time to shop

A somewhat unusual sight of Östermalmshallen, a posh place to shop your groceries. If you go to the restaurant Örtagården, you get to see this with your own eyes.

way out

Stockholm södra is a fairly new commuter train station, located below a multi storey residential housing complex.

free cone day

Ben and Jerry's Free Cone day at Sergels torg in Stockholm. For one day, all ice cream lovers got one ball of ice cream for free.

Kalimotxo Cup

On Ascension Thursday the 16th Annual Kalimotxo Cup boule (or pétanque or boccie) tournament was held at Södra Latin school yard. Eighteen players in eight teams battled for almost seven hours before the winning team could claim the victory.

nocturne for Sigtuna

I guess we all have our eccentric traditions. Me, I bring my camera for a night in Sigtuna, a small town north-north-west of the city center on the outskirts of Stockholm County. I've shown you the harbour before.

culture, that's me

A provocative bronze pig in Kungsängen. Situated immediately outside the town hall, I'm not sure what it's supposed to symbolize. Things that do come to mind in an election year are "immobility" or even "pork barrel politics". Be that as it may, the sculpture by Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd is called "La culture, c'est moi".

acoustic energy (2)

The trio Viskraft ("Ballad Power") was formed a couple of years back by friends studying at the folk music academy Visskolan in Västervik, 190 km south-south-west of Stockholm.

We've already met Emeli Jeremias. Here now is singer-songwriter Dick Pålsson together with Oskar Jeremias, in charge of the bass (while not busy singing or composing).

morning has broken by Norrviken

Morning has broken, like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning
Praise for the springing fresh from the word
(Eleanor Farjeon)

Another day dawns by the 12th century church in Sollentuna.

space according to Ebba

A school craft project in Bro culminates in a satellite exhibition in Bro Library. Here's a space station model created by Ebba, 10 years old. See more?

on top of things

Construction trailers lined up for all the Bob the builder's that work with the Stockholm Waterfront complex. 12 floors of approximately 2.100 square meters - each filled with congress centre, hotel and offices. Right on top of the Central Railway station where I'm waiting for the morning train to Copenhagen.

pass right through

The Essingeleden motorway going under the residential area Fredhäll. This is what it looks like on the other side.

A floorball tournament in the main hall of Stockholm central railway station. From morning to night there were activities surrounding floorball, a very popular sport in the Nordic countries.

the postilion

That's what this piece of art is called. Have you ever seen anyone like that, delivering your mail?

kinda blue....ish

This caught my attention. I was really on my way elsewhere but I just had to stop. This could be the entrance to some kind of shady place, but is actually a clothing-store.

Drottninggatan (map) 19 November 2009

A metro train is arriving at Slussen metro station from Gamla stan.

Slussen is a jumble of roads and cars, metros, boats, trains and buses, stairs, elevators and escalators, bicycles and people right in the heart of Stockholm. Loved by some, hated by others.

le bad ass streetdance

Urban Connection - Le Sthlm international bad ass très exclusif urban streetdance festival - a ten day urban dance bonanza. Cutting edge Swedish and international dancers and companies will perform in battles, jams, performance art gigs, film screenings and workshops. Here's battle in progress at Sergels torg.

a game of cherry

A little late this year, the cherry trees in Kungsträdgården are in full bloom again. And the chess players are out for a lunch hour game.

everyone should have one

Balconies, balconies, balconies. Oh, you can't count them all.

This is a fairly new and exclusive housing area on what used to be the old Electrolux industrial area on Lilla Essingen island. All balconies makes me think I'm at a tourist resort in Spain, at the Costa del Sol or somewhere, rather than on what once was an old factory ground.

working week over

Stockhom Central railway station. On track #15 the commuter train for Upplands Väsby is almost ready to leave. It's Friday at half past four and the working week is coming to an end.

quiet point in Duvbo

The subway can be an awfully noisy place. It can also be surprisingly quiet. Here's a tranquil moment in Duvbo Station when rush hour is over, the next train is a few minutes away, the escalators have stopped and... silence...

circle of life

Life begins anew where it once ended. It's spring at the cemetery.

acoustic energy

Visor på Vinter is a recurring folk music club at Restaurang Vinter, hosted by the trio Viskraft ("Ballad Power"). Here's singer-composer-cellist Emeli Jeremias. See more?

subliminal subway

A blink of the eye and you would've missed it. As indeed you did.
(John Cleese 1975)

The mythical Ghost Train of the subway is a rare sight. Modern inventions such as automated train control systems leave little room for anecdotal connections.

Behind the cover a new eight storey house is being built. Yes, we're back at Hornsplan. In the autumn this year, the 66 co-op apartments will be ready to welcome their new owners.

Hornsplan (map) 17 April 2010

remember ?

About two years ago, this view looked differently (at least from the other side). Slowly the building in the back is beginning to look like the hotel it's supposed to become.
