white lotus cave

Having cave walls decorated with aquatic flowering plants is perfectly natural at Näckrosen, a subway station in Solna Municipality. After all, näckros is the Swedish word for European White Waterlily or White Lotus.

This is really cool! I also like the contrast with the blue train, it really makes the composition look even better.

Great photo. Very interesting idea how underground station may look like.

Now that is a simply extraordinary coincidence. Yesterday evening I was reading an art magazine about how many European underground stations were decorated and saw almost exactly your photo! ;-) Love it!

That is neat. How wonderful to have a subway station named after such a lovely flower. And decorated so nicely too!

I've made several attempts to get decent photos from this particular station. Still not entirely happy but this one felt OK.

JM: Our trains used to be green but that was a couple of decades ago. I agree, these ones look real good.

m_m: The Stockholm subway is a treasure as far as art is concerned.

cieldequimper: That does sound like quite a coincidence. Then again, I have friends who don't believe at all in coincidences. I'm sure they'd have some explanation for this as well but we won't ask them! ;)

madeforjoy: Thanks!

Halcyon: I agree, it's a wonderful concept. We've got another station where the entire sky has been brought down into the cave. Well, sort of. Art-wise.

Thanks folks for stopping by Näckrosen station.

Everyone, don't forget to tune in on the 15th of every month for our mid-month theme subway day . This was sort of a bonus track!

Ida: Thanks, glad you like it.

Julie: Solna and in particular Näckrosen is part of suburbia and maybe that's why you missed it. We've got 100 stations so staying on top of this network is an entire career!

Appreciate all your comments.

This is just the right city for a subway nerd like me. So many stations, so little time... Thanks, Brett.
