daily photo theme day: no, you cannot walk here

I don't know if we can make a 'no' more clear than this. A large no pedestrian sign, a yellow information sign saying - in Swedish and English - that the footpath is closed (and why) and that you can be punished in accordance with Swedish law if you proceed, writing in yellow and red on the asphalt saying "NB! Bicycles only. No pedestrians!" A few meters behind my back is a blue sign saying "Pedestrians are requested to use the footpath on the other side of the bridge." So, he asked, where do we find the pedestrians?

That is a very clear sign in any language

Is that a scofflaw visible a little ways down, on the right?

Okay, so I won't walk, but can I do cartwheels down the path? ;^) They certainly gone out of their way to get the message across here. Nice photo of the scene, too!

Well, I guess getting hit by a bicycle would be bad for both people. Nice shot.

Hi ,

The bees are back in Brookville, Ohio. I hope for the rest of the year at least. I even got one on my Better Blog Writing post today. LOL

I see you found an adorable No signs for our July Theme Day.

Isn't it almost funny to think of adult people scurrying around their communities taking pictures of signs. And if somebody had asked what that is all about and you said a sign with "no" on it, they might... well. It is kind of funny.

Your posting illustrates something that I commented about on my posting of a "No" sign on my Tamarindo, Costa Rica Daily Photo site. That is, signs in English in countries where other languages are the native language. It is a reflection of the failure of Americans to speak other languages, and the consideration extended by other countries, and the use of English as a universal second language, which it certainly is in Scandinavia. I was amused once by an airline lost luggage clerk at the Venice airport who was annoyed at a German traveler with whom she was having trouble communicating, and she scolded him "Can't you speak ENGLISH?"

By the way, I am not anti-American. I am a citizen of the USA, of Swedish descent.

Wow, I guess you do take your bicycling lanes seriously in Stockholm. As an avid cyclist here in the States, I sometimes wish our cycling paths would have more warning signs for pedestrians to look out. Can't stand it when I run one of them over. Have a great week in Sweden and Happy July!

hjcpgiNice choice for the theme day!

I think the message here is very clear, regardless of language!

Happy Theme Day!

But I could see somebody walked there!

Somewhere in between "caution" and "punished" they also say "please use other side". So the entire barrage of messages appears rather improvised!

There must be a construction work going on? Great photo you caught there!

Z and Harry Makertia: Yes, it's one of those pedestrians walking there in the distance. I was cycling myself meeting one of them on the narrow part. She had to climb up on the railing to let me through. If she had said anything I would peacefully have asked her "Yes, and how did you get here?" (actually that was written on another sign at the "sudden" end of a path a few years ago).

David: When they don't understand: speak louder!

Kim: As long as it's not walking and it's not wider than one meter (three feet) it's OK!

Deslilas: Oh dear, are you implying that the the French President Nicolas Sarkozy (Monsieur Omnipresident) wouldn't manage a bike on a one meter wide path? That's alarming! I wish the French success in their chairmanship of the EU! ;o)

Coltrane_lives: "Can't stand it when I run one of them over." ;o) Happy July to you too!

Thanks all for stopping by and leaving a comment.
