daily photo theme day: bloody breakfast

Some people like this for breakfast, some don't and some say anytime of the day is OK.

The typical Bloody Mary consists of vodka, tomato juice, salt and pepper, Tabasco, Worcestershire sauce and squeezed lemon. And oh, don’t forget the celery stick. The drink on the photo was enjoyed at a brunch at a Stockholm hotel, which I think is the best place and occasion to enjoy a Bloody Mary.

There are a number of variations to the drink. Most common would be Virgin Mary (without alcohol) and Bloody Maria (tequila). The name Bloody Mary is said to associate to Queen Mary I of England – known as Bloody Mary after she had many hundreds of
religious dissenters executed.

How did we come to meet Mary this time?
It all started the day before ...

Now THIS is more like it! I can guarantee that when I show this to my wife, we'll be having bloody marys next weekend!

Great take on the theme! And I don't mind a bloody mary in the evening either!

Aha! So what they say about the Swedes is right, then!

BundaWAH said...

I never taste it so don't laugh at my silly question : "the celery stick is just for decoration or you also eat it?"

Anonymous said...

For breakfast. It would be more of a revolt from my stomach than anything else that would prevent me from consuming the drink.

Thank you all for your kind comments and thoughts.

travelphilippines: Maybe you should try it for breakfast then ;o) You may like it then.

R&R in The Netherlands: You know, I think I will too! As we are in the same time zone I will cheer you and your wife.

Sally: Yes, I also think it’s OK to have breakfast when ever you feel like it.

jb: What? What have you heard now? That we can’t do without our vodka? Hm, yes, kind of true … Especially when we meet the Finns and the Russians.

BundaWAH: That's not silly! I have no idea! I have never eaten my celery stick, but I think some do. Anyone cares to comment that?

Abraham Lincoln: One should always listen to ones stomach. It is the wisest organ of the human body.

Beetle: One yes. Two maybe. Three probably go to sleep.

As we say here - hair of the dog!

(Hair of the dog: An alcoholic chaser reputed to relieve a hangover, usually needed the morning after imbibing too much alcohol)

For breakfast? It does have a bright color...but you need something to eat with it, no?

JaamZIN said...

i am not sure if I can take is as breakfast..but for dinner:)

Tomate Farcie said...

You know, I've heard of people having that for breakfast. Usually, these people had that for dinner the night before, too, though, but hey, don't kick it until you try it, I guess? ;)

Felicia said...

Good for a hangover! And yes, eat the celery too for good health! ;)

stromsjo said...

...also #100 by Peter here on pixels. Enough reason for a reasonably moist celebration!

Kerry-Anne said...

Wow! That's quite a breakfast!

Isabella: "Hair of the dog"! I have never heard of such a saying. But according to Wikipedia the expression has been around since Shakespearian times so apparently I haven't been listening up.

Rambling Round: You could do it with food, you could do without. I guess that all depend on how bad the dog bit you the night before.

Tomate Farcie: Do I sense a bit of hesitation here ... ?

Felicia: Thanks for putting us straight on the celery part! Have a healthy breakfast and eat your celery then.

Per Stromsjo: Thanks Per! I'm celebrating already with a pint of low alcohol ecological beer.

A note for the geek records: Both this photo and its 'sister photo' on Plenty was taken with two different mobile phones.

Tomate Farcie said...

Yes, you do!

Nice ;o]

Sorry, I'm late... May I still try?

OK enjoy, but be careful! On 5 June 2007 the European Court of Justice ruled that the Swedish monopoly is a disproportionate measure to attain its objective (limit alcohol consumption), and is not compatible with EU law! ;)
But Maria Larsson confirmed that the alcohol monopoly will stay put and that the Swedish State "will also work for restrictive alcohol policies" within the EU... :((

GMG: I am sure there are better forums to discuss EU policies, The Court of Justice rulings and Swedish monopolies than the photo blog Stockholm by Pixels.

Don't worry, when it's time for you to have breakfast, it's bound to be drinkie time somewhere in the world.
