daily photo theme day: glass, anyone?

Glass is an important souvenir to bring home after visiting Sweden. Glass is timeless - a winner in just about any season. Still, few Swedes would consider enjoying their daily glass at this time of year. After all, glass is the Swedish word for ice-cream and it's quite cold enough, thank you. Just look at the icy Riddarfjärden. Not unlike a floor of glass.

Beautiful!
When it is ice outside I do not long for an icecream...
(sw. ett glas (long a) = a glass
sw. en glass (short a)= an icecream)

Till Peter: Det bästa i livet är gratis. (Kommentar till din bild!)

Well I'd like an ice cream but the ice on its own..maybe not! Great take on the theme.

And from the perspective of a fish, it'd be a glass ceiling. There's discrimination everywhere.

It looks like many panes of glass floating on the water. Very pretty!

What a great take on the word glass. OH well done. Lovely shot too - that ice does indeed look like glass.

Hi Peter ... I like your explanation today. It does a good job of tying your local language and a local scene to the theme.

Thank you all for stopping by, and thank you Per for helping me out on this one.

Today I was taking a long walk on the ice. Haven't done that since I was a kid. I will post one or two photos of the occasion on Pixels.

Lena: Sant. Men ibland får man lägga till en krona eller två för att få det att hända.

Ice cream is wonderful in any language. I'll be more than happy to have some glass! Nice interpretation.

I reached your blog from your comment on Julie's Scottsdale Daily Photo. Yours is a creative variation of the theme of glass.

By the way, my mother's side of the family is Swedish, having emigrated about 120 years ago to a city in Massachusetts that had a Swedish community, complete with a Swedish language newspaper. Sadly, our family did not maintain manty Swedish traditions, other than my mother's sense of pride and blond hair. I did enjoy a visit to Sweden several years ago.
