Re your comment: We used to bike at Shark Valley in the Everglades on a 15-mile loop...lots of alligators, many of them in the middle of the road. One day we counted 150!
And yes, they can move very fast...I've heard up to 35 miles per hour. Might have a hard time outrunning a hungry one. Fortunately, they eat only once a month. The problem is you never know when that once a month comes up!
