#1009 it's not the sky that's falling on our heads
On 8 August 1993 a Saab JAS 39 Gripen (Griffin) fighter aircraft crashed in this this park during an air show. The plane was a test aircraft (Gripen came into active service in 1998) and the show was a part of a huge city festival - the Stockholm Water Festival - with thousands and thousands of people out and about. Miraculously no one was hurt. On the exact spot is a sculpture by Thomas Qvarsebo and in the background you see Västerbron and Södermalm (south central). Interesting story.
Oh my! I'm glad no one was hurt.

It always amazes me that no one is hurt in this type of accident considering the size of the crowds and how close they get to the action.
