Göta Canal

Say hello to M/S Diana! She will take you on a journey from Stockholm to the west coast city Gothenburg over a 390 kilometres long system of canals, lakes and rivers. 190 kilometres will be the Göta Canal built in the early 19th century by Baltzar von Platen. 90 kilometres of the Göta Canal was dug by hand, the difference in level is 91,8 metres and the number of locks is 58.

Hi, Diana!

The approach to infrastructure is interesting and probably says something about a society. In the 19th century we were a poor country and obviously lacking any modern technology. Still, we had the vision and persistence for large scale projects like canals and railroads. Where did all that courage go?
