national day - balloons everywhere
The 6th of June is Sweden's national day. It has not been celebrated so long, I mean in the sense of being a day off from work. This is the fifth year. In Stockholm 50,000 balloons were released. Many had already blown up due to the heat while waiting for their freedom. It sounded like someone was making popcorn, only the smell was strange. It looked great though and was well worth going into town for, even if it meant having to struggle to get somewhere.

The idea of systematically distributing more litter into our environment doesn't seem entirely brilliant but it's a good shot, Bernt. Starting the week with flying colours.
wow..what a great photo!:) Congratulations to the national day!
Nice. I am surprised such an eco-friendly country like Sweden would be keen on letting balloons go. But maybe they are bio balloons or something. :)
Good or not---it is a beautiful sight. MB
Well, the shot is great, "green" balloons or not!
I agree with per. Politically incorrect. But quite beautiful.
I love the national colours of Sweden -- sweet!
Alright, there we are, the balloons!!!
Well, Per, and the rest of you worrying about the environment. The balloons are said to decompose as quickly as an oakleaf (if that is quick). That might be one of the reasons so many pop'ed before they had a chance to fly.
And thanks to all of you kind enough to leave a comment. I liked the many balloons in yellow and blue, but wouldn't mind some other colours as well, but for this time it was OK.
This pic is also my entry to a competition for the best balloonpic that day. The prize? A trip over Stockholm, Yes - in a balloon. Hopefully bigger and sturdier than these. I'd like that, but as you see on the picture, I wasn't exactly alone out there.
Belated Happy National Day.
Amazing photo -- love the balloons.
Wow, vad fint du fångade det där! Kul att få se, själv orkade jag inte gå dit i värmen som jag tänkt. Svalkade mig i Mälaren i stället.
