mid-month theme: subway day

Opened in 1952, Thorildsplan ("Thorild's Square") is an old outdoor platform on the oldest subway line. Sandwiched between the lanes of the Drottningholm Road it's not a very attractive station. But if you take a closer look, thanks to artist Huck Hultgren you will see a sun rising on the concrete wall behind the train. See more?

subway day is a mid-month theme shared by the following blogs:
Budapest - New York City - Paris - Stockholm

Thanks for pointing out the sun symbol on the wall. I would not have noticed it otherwise.

To answer your question, the NYC subway signs are all standardized. They are all color coded and are alphanumeric.

I was just shooting the metro station near my house the other night so this picture really captured my attention. Wonderful night shot!

I love the night shot! I live in a very rural area.. We dont have subways here.. I dont believe there is any in Arizona

This station was notorious for its lack of artistic decoration (except for that sun then) but things have improved in recent years. There's more to see, Ming(tm).

Laurie: Thanks, who can resist a night shot? ;)

Carrie Hayes: Subways aren't exactly commonplace in Sweden either, the one in Stockholm is our only in fact.

Thanks guys for stopping by.

Happy subway day!

WEll I was stopping by to see when you want to declare "Cute Trolley Day" and see that you do have a
rapid transit system after all. I will however let you join the very elite Trolley Group, since without you, it won't BE a group! HA

Peter of Paris and (I believe) Andrea of Budapest are on vacation but following the links you can still enjoy their previous subway shots.

Virginia: Good to hear that the Elite Trolley Group is on it's way... ;) That'd be fun!

JM: Technically speaking one could probably argue that there's a bit too much light in this one. Glad you like it, so do I.

Thanks all for commenting. A special thanks to Ming(tm) for sharing this mid-month theme with us for a year now! This was in fact Subway Day #13.
