dawn in the groovy grove

Art in public places has a tendency to become the subject of controversy. This bronze centaur from 1939 by sculptor Sigrid Fridman was no exception. Little ladies were supposed to make nice little things or - better yet - leave the creative work to men. Fortunately she didn't and here's her powerful statue Kentauren in the Observatory Grove as a new day dawns over Sveavägen. See more?

Beautiful photo. I love centaurs, and this one looks majestic, even if it's only in silhouette!

You’re really good at photographing architecture and art. Exploring interesting angles and finding drama at wee hours seems to be your speciality. Well done, Per.

Even if this grove can't be as nice as Aunty O's it's quite the lovely picture!

I'm glad that lady didn't listen to conventional wisdom. It's a grand sculpture and your photo really sets it off.

I've hardly ever been snapping photos at dawn before, it was interesting and... different. This particular stroll was an "all night thing": dusk, dawn, the lot.

Hilda: I agree, it's quite majestic.

Peter H: Thanks. I promised myself to give night photography a chance this summer and was lucky to find several good opportunities.

Pia K: You're so right. Nothing compares to Aunty O's Grove(tm) of course! ;)

babooshka: That early dawn sky certainly helped...

JM: Swimming is not to be taken lightly! ;) Greetings to you.

Deslilas: Actually it's that very, early moment of morning. But you're right, it's certainly a special time of day and year.

Paz: Thanks for your support!

Halcyon: I couldn't agree more. We owe a lot to these strong women who wouldn't back down into anonymity.

I'm not going to spoil your impression of this exciting moment by providing any gory details but let's just say that there were stuff and little creatures outside the picture which made this a somewhat unpleasant moment. Photography is a tough job but someone's got to do it! ;)

Thanks all for stopping by. We'll return to the Groovy Grove on Monday.

Per, I think we share the centauri
devotion :-) This one is just as good as the other you had. Shows what happens when you have more time on your hands, and not just rushing by.
