yin yang cubism

At Vreten subway station cubes of blue skies penetrate cave walls as well as the platform itself. The artist Takashi Naraha wanted to emphasize balancing opposites. Therefore, glimpses of skies here in the underground and - indeed - also a dark cube of diabase rock outside the station entrance, above ground. A yin yang perspective in Solna.

I do not know if this sculpture really 'emphasize balancing opposites' but, being in an underground station, it is quite nice.

They brighten up the station !!

Adds a bit of colour to the day . Good idea...

It's a weird one but I do like all the art in the different underground stations.

Great idea! It's allways nice to see light blue when you are underground.

Nice! I think all kind of art is welcome, especially in sterile public areas such as underground stations.

I think it's great that there is so much thought that goes into the subway art in Stockholm. You're always showing us the most wonderful things. I'm sure it makes the commute nicer!

I like the idea of this because it brings a bit of "daylight" into the underground...it doth seem a bit big and unwieldy...

Maybe I feel that way because being a klutzy sort, I'd probably bump into the thing...

Vreten is in fact my favourite station as far as artistic decoration is concerned.

Vogon Poet: This is one of many cubes, you might want to click on the link for a few more.

Petrus: Yes, they really do!

Steffe: I wouldn't say I like all stations but there's a lot of diversity and a lot to discover.

JM: Exactly and I guess that was his point, really.

Buenos Aires Photoblog: Commuting can be frightfully dull, and-and-and boring, and-and completely... Completely wonderful! ;)

Halcyon: I suppose we tend to show the bits and pieces we like and not every station is fantastic but, on balance, yes it's a treasure. Glad to be able to share it with you.

Jacob: Well, look upon it from the bright side. This particular cube is big and solid enough to withstand our bumping-into-it... :) Unfortunately, the ones on the platform are rather popular with the vandals as well.

Thanks for commuting with us!

Jag har aldrig hört talas om Vreten, var ligger den? Den verkar vara värd ett besök!

Längs Hjulstalinjen, Lena, sex stationer från T-Centralen. Väl värd ett besök.

I'm going to end up visiting Stockholm's underground rather than its overground!

Interesting to see these objects :)

This was snapped 28 meters below ground level.

cieldequimper: I'd recommend a touch of daylight as well but there's certainly a lot to see down here - one hundred stations to be precise.

humanobserver: And not just see them. The cubes in the platform are very tangible.

Thanks all for joining us on this cubistic endeavor!
