swing it!

Danvik Bridge is a bascule bridge. It has a counterweight balancing the span which can be swung upwards to the benefit of boats that otherwise would be unable to pass under the bridge. This is where South Central (Södermalm) ends and the municipality Nacka begins. See more?

I'm allways fascinated by 'moving' bridges! I don't know any in Portugal.

As to your comment on King Carlos legacy, well, sometimes I have the same thoughts, but anyhow we all leave something behind us even if it is just for a few people... :-)

In Paris you may find some turning bridge over the St Martin canal.
In Troyes there's always the house of the man who moves a turning bridge over the Haute Seine canal near the Prefecture.

My bridge here in Ramsey is a swing bridge. They are fascinating. Nicely taken.

Stay tuned, JM. This bridge will swing along right here on pixels one of these days!

Deslilas: Do they swing side-ways or upwards?

Lena Johansson: Tack! Den här gången var jag lite trött på city. Länet består av 26 kommuner och de 25 som inte heter Stockholm har fått alldeles för lite plats i rampljuset. Här blev det lite Nacka, i alla fall.

Babooshka: Thanks. I agree, they are fascinating. I never studied them close-up before. Sometimes it takes a camera to start noticing things around us.

Thanks for commenting. We'll return to Danvik Bridge and don't be surprised if things start moving...
