bike attack
I have no idea. Suddenly there were bicycles everywhere. They came up at one side of a road, hurried over to the other side in total contempt for death and then rode on. It was over in a minute and I never saw them again.

Some kind of competition, undoubtedly. That they held it on Midsummer's Day (= minimum road traffic) may be a sign that they were not completely mad.

And they all seem to wear helmets.
Probably a "follow the leader" deal and the leader was trying to lose 'em.
