to readers, guest photographers and co-authors, thanks for five exciting years of pixels !
Back in 1967 trams disappeared from the city, to be replaced by buses and cars in the name of Progress. A couple of months ago they returned as the
heritage tramway to
Djurgården was symbolically extended to Sergel Square in the immediate city center with
new tramcars and regular traffic to commence all year round.
Such is the face of Stockholm. Ever changing, yet still the same.

Stureplan is one of the major party hubs in Stockholm and is the favourite playground for brats and the nouveau riche. The round thing is Svampen/the mushroom, a classic meeting place since 1937. In December 1994 four people were shot dead and 20 injured at the entrance to one of the night clubs here.

At least there are directions to be had here. The only thing now is - where to go....

Eagerly waiting for the musical We will rock you to begin.
"Everywhere, the kids watch the same movies, wear the same fashions and think the same thoughts. It’s a safe, happy, Ga Ga world. Unless you’re a rebel. Unless you want to Rock. On Planet Mall all the musical instruments are banned..."
It will be a night filled with Queen music!

So - what do you do when your bike has broke down on you? Had it been a car, I'd say - paint it yellow, it might fool someone. In this case, some flowers did the trick. Or did you notice the flat tire first?

Nynäshamn is a coastal town 58 kilometers south of Stockholm. On top of a hill in the town center there used to be a lighthouse. In 1930 they instead erected Nynäshamn Church by architect

An early autumn walk in Humlegården - "the hop's garden". Humlegården was originally the Royal Fruit Garden, established by King Johan III in the 16th century. By popular speech the park is called Humlan, "the bumble bee".

A metro train arriving station Stadshagen. The "corrugated metal thingie" is an artwork depicting the two local rivalling ice hockey teams Djurgården and AIK. If you look from one side you see Djurgården score a goal, and from the other side AIK surely scores behind the Djurgården keeper. The artist is Lasse Lindqvist.

I think that nature is striving to take back what has been stolen. This house is a good example of that (my garden another). Or is this the famous Greenhouse effect?

Långholmsgatan is one of Stockholm's most heavily trafficked streets. It's merely 500 meters long and connects Liljeholmsbron with Västerbron on Södermalm. Its name comes from the island Långholmen - that's the green in the photo.

One of the Royal Guards keeping an eye on things - and on people.
The Royal Guards are responsible, with the police and palace authorities, for guarding The Royal Palace of Stockholm and Drottningholm Palace. They are also part of the defence force of the centre of Stockholm. When guard duties are required, The Royal Guards act as honorary guard to HM the King.

We are used to see polo as a fast game played on horseback. Here's a slower Segway version (which is a bit funny as Swedish slang for something slow is seg - pronounced with a long e).

S/S Birger Jarl was launched on 15 January 1953 and named after the 13th century Swedish statesman Birger jarl. After her maiden voyage to Helsinki she started regular service on the routes Stockholm - Helsinki and Stockholm - Turku. Today, M/S Birger Jarl is a cruise ship on service between Stockholm and Mariehamn on the Åland Islands (Finland).

Danvik cemetery was inaugurated in 1834 and used up to the first years in the twentieth century. It is assumed that it was a cemetery for the poor and sick who died in Danvik hospital. Unfortunately, the church book remains missing so this can neither be confirmed nor denied.

The "headquarters" of Stockholm County Council. The council’s mandate is to ensure that Stockholmians have access to health care and public transport as well as to preventing health problems. Its activities affect over one fifth of Sweden's population and the geographical area covers 26 municipalities of various sizes and characters, with a total population of 1.9 million.
